In 1999 during the General Conference almost all 170 UNESCO Member States adopted a resolution inviting the Member States and the international community to provide all possible support for the implementation of the project of the National Library of Latvia. On 15 May 2008, following a debate over several years, the state agency “Jaunie “Trīs brāļi”” [“New “Three Brothers””] signed the contract on the construction of the National Library of Latvia. The goal of the project of the National Library of Latvia was to make information accessible to everybody irrespective of his/ her place of residence, social status, education, nationality or any other aspects. The new building of the National Library of Latvia opened its doors to readers in 2014 and heat supply to the library building is provided by JSC „RĪGAS SILTUMS”.
